CAPSEA domestic violence emergency shelter

Job Title: Resident Staff
Hours: Up to 30/week; Afternoons/evenings/weekends as scheduled

Salary Range: $14.00 – $16.00 per hour

Reports To: CAPSEA. Inc. Executive Director/Direct Services Supervisor

Basic Function(s): To deliver victims, children, and significant others of domestic violence, sexual violence and victims of serious crimes crisis and trauma informed supportive services in shelter and in an office setting as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and participate in daily efficient and safe shelter activities and maintenance to include, but not limited to:
    • Daily housekeeping in both the shelter and office area to assure sanitary conditions and upkeep of the facility.
    • Must be capable of lifting/moving in excess of 20 pounds.
    • Monitor the needs of victims and supplies of the shelter.
    • Sorting, organization and storing donations.
    • Reporting all needs and problems to the Executive Director.
    • Monitoring Shelter Guidelines.
    • Provide shelter security checks during each shift.
    • Supervise resident chore assignments and their completion.
  • Log daily activities, concerns, problems, and safety issues in communication log(s).
  • Must maintain a non-judgmental attitude when working with all victims and significant others of domestic violence and sexual assault.
  • Complete shelter intake forms and exit interviews, when necessary, for shelter guests.
  • Complete case notes in shelter files and other pertinent paperwork.
  • Answer the office phone and provide direct services as needed while on duty.
  • Provide hotline coverage as needed.
  • Must complete a total of 10 hours up-dated training per year. 
  • Attend staff meetings, in-service training, and related professional training and activities as directed by the Executive Director.
  • Coordinate with staff to ensure consistent delivery of service.
  • Perform any and all duties deemed necessary by the Executive Director.

Qualifications

  • Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed/scheduled.
  • Must hold a minimum high school diploma/GED.
  • Must be familiar with “trauma-informed services”.
  • Must be reliable and report to work when scheduled.
  • Must be capable of lifting over 20 pounds.
  • Must be capable of outdoor work and light maintenance (i.e.mowing, weeding, power washing, raking, snow shoveling, painting, etc.).
  • Must be able to work independently and unsupervised.
  • Must be able to handle emergency situations.
  • Must have the ability to work with a diverse group of people while maintaining a non-judgmental attitude.
  • Must be familiar with all services provided by CAPSEA, Inc.
  • Must have the ability to work closely and share responsibilities with co-workers in a team environment.
  • Must possess a valid PA Driver’s License, have access to an insured vehicle, and be willing to transport victims while on duty, if needed.
  • Must successfully complete the mandatory CAPSEA, Inc.’s 80+ hour training in Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.
  • Must have the ability to work flexible hours and “on-call” if needed.
  • Must be able to obtain Act 33 and Act 34 FBI clearances.
